How to Remove Duplicate Google Business Listings

Having multiple Google Business Profile listings for the same business location can confuse customers, affect your online visibility, and make it difficult to manage reviews and business information. If you have duplicate listings, you can resolve the issue by identifying the correct profile, reporting the duplicate to Google, and keeping your business details consistent.

Important: Don’t delete your primary Google Business Profile just because another listing is a duplicate. The right solution depends on whether you own both profiles, whether they are verified, and whether they represent the same business.

Step-by-Step Guide to Removing Duplicate Listings

Identify the Duplicate Profiles

Start by searching for your business on Google Maps and Google Search. Check each listing carefully and compare:

  • Business name and address
  • Phone number and website
  • Verification status
  • Reviews and photos
  • Map location

Identify which profile contains the most accurate information and should remain your primary listing.

Confirm That the Listings Are Duplicates

Not every multiple listing is a duplicate. Duplicate profiles generally represent the same business at the same location.

Common examples include two listings created for the same shop, a new profile made while an existing one is active, or profiles with slightly different business names.

Before taking action, ensure the listings don’t represent separate branches, eligible departments, or different businesses operating at distinct locations.

Sign In to the Profile You Want to Keep

Access your Google Business Profile dashboard using the account that manages your business.

Confirm that your primary profile has accurate business information, including the name, address, phone number, and website. Make sure you have access to the listing you want to retain, and avoid deleting it while resolving the duplicate.

Report the Duplicate on Google Maps

You can report a duplicate listing through Google Maps by following these steps:

  1. Open Google Maps and search for the duplicate business.
  2. Select the listing you want to report.
  3. Click Suggest an edit or the relevant reporting option.
  4. Choose the option indicating that the place is a duplicate, if available.
  5. Provide the correct business listing details and submit your request.

Google will review your report. However, submitting a request does not guarantee immediate removal or approval.

Contact Google Business Profile Support

If you manage both listings and cannot resolve the issue through Google Maps, contact Google Business Profile Support.

Explain which profile you want to keep, which one is a duplicate, and why both listings represent the same business. Include profile links, the official business name, and the correct address to help Google investigate.

How to Choose the Right Solution

The best approach depends on your situation. If you accidentally created a duplicate, address it through your Business Profile account while protecting the primary listing. If two listings represent the same business, report the duplicate through Google Maps. For a listing owned by someone else, use Google’s reporting or ownership support process.

If your business has moved, update the existing profile instead of automatically creating a new listing.

Tips

Before removing or merging any profile, save your listing URLs and check where your reviews are located. Google may combine reviews during eligible merges, but review replies or other content may not be preserved.
